World Sportscar Championship

Before the season, announced very French CSI (Commission Sportive Internationale) technical committee to new rules that gave 2-liter turbo cars sound theoretical advantage over their competition 3-liter naturally aspirated. When too many French Renault Alpine team has revealed a 2-liter turbocharged car a few days later, conspiracy theorists screamed. But no-one even some French people at Porsche has also worked on a 2-liter turbo-program, then maybe lobbying was more multinational than anyone thought. Regardless, the age had arrived turbo and new cars promised to be amazingly fast - if they can hold up an entire race. Team-Alpha Kauhsen hoped they would not.

24 hours of Daytona opened the season kind. Thank you to a disagreement between the International Motor Sports Association and CSI, the race was initially excluded from the championship due to a reluctance to run IMSA Group 5 class and hostility to the group of five teams to participate in sufficient numbers to change the minds of IMSA. Three races into the season, the Daytona was restored in the championship, which meant, if anything, more points for Porsche, with Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood victory.

At Mugello, which was at least the opening of the European season, led by Jacky Ickx and Alfa Merzario Arturo led for much of the race until a long pit stop for brake problems. Jean-Pierre Gerard Larrousse Jabouille and took advantage and scored the first victory of the Alpine-Renault. Things looked bleak for non-turbo runners at this point, but the season is still new and so were the mountain. In fact, 1000k Dijon, Alpine has suffered a sudden attack of new car-blues that allowed Williams F1 teammates (start of the season, anyway) and Jacques Laffite Merzario to win.

Only 16 cars took the start Coppa Florio in Sicily, and led Alfa Merzario / mass and the Bell / Pescarolo clear 1-2 to finish the course. Field proved to be healthy for the Nurburgring 1000k, a new, improved and very fast downhill takes away qualifiers. Jochen Mass., has worked with Jody Scheckter in the third Alpha, bolted to the lead, but the Alpine-Renault will soon be booed. France has brought the voice until the turbo-set problems, which left the Alpha and the Mirage team to fight for the trophy. Mass / Sheckter car experienced brake problems faded, and the sixth, but Merzario and Laffite were able to hold off hard charging Mirage and Howden Ganley schenken for close to winning.

Thank you to a different set of rules for fuel, he was at Le Mans is not a part of the championship in 1975 and most of the prototypes, Alpha included, stayed away. The team has made the Gulf and the race team Ickx / Bell won the GR8 Cosworth-powered. It was the second Le Mans victory for Ickx and the first three years, he won the co-driving with Bell.

When the championship again in Austria on Österreichring 1000k, a second Alpine joined the mix with his teammates Scheckter Tyrrell F1 (contracts were a little more relaxed at a time) and Patrick join Jarier Depailler Larrousse and Jean-Pierre. With storms around the circuit, the car Scheckter / Depailler splashed a big advantage before electricity and fuel system left agitated water for the day. L'Alfas ultra-reliable sailed to the final one-two, with Pescarolo / Bell Merzario section and new hires (Lafitte was busy blocking the European F2 title) Vittorio "The Monza Gorilla" Brambilla.

The series ended with the Watkins Glen 6 hours, and as usual, the alpine and outran the most popular Alfas. Halfway, a storm rolled in, many cars and split the race was eventually red flag for 65 minutes. When the race resumed, the two Alfas spent the next three hours of his way and won his fourth double of the season. Pescarolo / Bell won, with the special collaboration of Merzario and Mario Andretti in the second.

The victory at the Glen was a tip of a very successful season. Reliable cars, the drivers of talent and skilled preparation came together to produce Alfa Romeo and seven wins first world championship since Fangio won the Formula One crown in 1951. If there had been a pilot basis in 1975, he would have gone to Merzario, who scored four victories. Not bad for a team that was put together at the last minute!
